Local Artist Policy

If you are a "local" or "independent" artist interested in submitting your music for possible airplay, please review our Local Artist Policy (displayed below) and send your music to: The Word FM, P.O. Box 186, Sellersville, PA. 18960.

Word FM Local Artist Policy

Thank you for your interest in the Word FM. As a Christian music station actively involved in our community, we have been blessed by the ministries the Lord has raised up in the local area. Through airplay, use of our Community Bulletin Board and occasional live interviews, the Word FM is glad to bolster local Christian music ministries, as well as inform the public about area concerts.

What is the criteria for local artists being played on the Word FM?

  • Quality: We have a responsibility to our listeners to play the best written, best produced, best performed songs and artists. Music must be professionally produced and recorded (no "garage" recordings). Music must be on compact disc.
  • Authenticity: All music must be accompanied by a letter or request to be aired -- no phone calls, please. All artists must have a history of live, public performances. In addition, all artists must have adequate management representation.

  • Spiritual Content: Songs must conform to lyrical criteria, as determined by the Program Director and Station Manager. Lyrics need to be included with all music.

  • Format: Music must be consistent with the current Christian Hit radio format in musical style and lyrical content.

A few things you should know about the Word FM:

  • We would love to play every sincere artist, and regret that we cannot.
  • We operate with a very small staff, whose priority is the day-to-day programming and management of the station. Please be patient with us!

  • We receive TONS of music! We review new music as time permits, but unfortunately, not everything -- local or national -- will get airplay.

  • Our responsibility is to our listeners. We attempt to keep their listening habits in mind when making music choices. Through request shows, questionnaires, telephone, e-mail and written feedback, we feel we are getting a pretty accurate picture of what the Word FM listeners want.

  • The Program Director and Station Manager have the ultimate decision in what is played or not played. The announcers on the air are NOT responsible for music selection or programming decisions.

A few favors we ask:

  • Please do not call the station and request your own music. Please do not ask your friends and family to call. When we start getting unsolicited feedback from listeners who have seen you in concert and are being ministered to by your music, we will be much more apt to sit up and take notice!
  • Get involved in the local Christian music scene. Our area has an abundance of coffeehouses and opportunities for ministering. This experience is invaluable in building up a fan and support base.

  • Make use of our community bulletin board -- this free service will get the word out about your upcoming shows for several weeks prior to the concert.

  • Please do not develop a "What can The Word FM do for me" mentality. Our station’s goal is to glorify the Lord, encourage the body of Christ, and reach non-believers with His message, through music. Our focus is on Him, not the performers.

  • Support The Word FM in prayer. If you are interested in investing in the lives of the listeners through the ministry of The Word FM, this is a tangible way of doing it.

If the Word FM does not play your music, please keep in mind:

  • The Word FM is not the "be all, end all." If the Lord is directing you into music ministry, do not let a radio station dissuade you from your task. If getting radio airplay from The Word FM "makes or breaks" your music career, you may want to reconsider what you are doing.
  • Keep at it! As you and we progress and mature, it is possible your music may be played in the future. Some of the most well-known national artists were rejected several times by radio stations in their first few tries.

  • Persistent phone calls or e-mails will not make us more apt to play your music. If you feel we are in error, pray for us that the Lord would open our eyes.

  • Not all music . . . even all GREAT music . . . is good radio music!

  • One of the hardest things to do is tell someone their music is not good enough. Music is a very personal thing, and as an artist, your music is like your "baby." Try to understand what we are saying. We are not saying YOU are not good enough, or that the Lord can’t use you. We are just saying that your music is not ready for The Word FM at this time.

  • If you are an aspiring artist or songwriter and need some information on breaking into the music industry, we have available an 8-page article put out by the Gospel Music Association with some great information.  We'd be glad to fax you a copy of the article -- just e-mail us your FAX NUMBER (sorry ... we have one paper copy of this article, so we can only send it by fax).

  • The management and staff covets your prayers, that we would be led by God in these decisions.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. May the Lord bless you as you serve Him!
